“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” (2 Cor 10:12)
The kingdom of God is built on differences and that is why in the beginning, God created everything one of a kind. Creation can only survive as they appreciate and trade with their differences. If there is something you found in someone that you never have, be assured that there is something in your hand that such individual also long to have.
Differences are God’s wisdom to keep and make the earth a fascinating place to live. Colors exhibit glory in differences. Men are made to talk with objectivity while women talk to fellowship. Your difference is what empowers you. Even when people compare you with someone else, refuse to be moved by it because they are indirectly calling you a duplicate. Live and think like an original!
Similarities produce union and not unity. “Union” means let’s look for only what we have in common and try coping with each other, but “unity” means we understand and appreciate our differences. While union talks about blending together, unity quickly sees reinforcement through differences. When union becomes the foundation for marriage, it soon hits the rock the time unappreciated differences start emerging. Difference is what brings unity at home or else we would have gone crazy marrying same sex. When God created them, He made them male and female. What a wise God! And if you wonder, why racism, envy, covetousness, jealousy and the rest of its kind, the answer is in appreciating union over unity.
“They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march everyone on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks: Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk everyone in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.” (Joel 2:7-8)
Always take note that differences do not connote superiority, but a respect for everyone’s originality. What you don’t have you don’t lack because you surely have all that you needed for that time. God has never made a mistake about how you were created. He makes all things beautiful in His own time. Don’t beat yourself because you see someone ahead of you. We may be running towards the same target but we are never meant to take the same path. When you are in your own path, you will surely see nobody ahead of you. Your greatness and safety is in appreciating your difference.
